Musical Improvisation Shuts Down Your Brain's Overthinking

This is an interesting study - they studied Jazz musicians while they improvised solos and found 'The parts of the musicians’ brains that monitor their performance shut down, while the sections that organize “self-initiated thoughts and behaviors” were highly activated.'

What is Your Approach to Learning Piano?

I read somewhere that the best way to learn piano is to find a song that you really really like, and learn that song first. Along the way you will pick up the tools you need in order to play that song, and you will not get bored like many beginners do when they learn all the scales and chords first. Just pick a song that "speaks" to you and learn only the chords and notes you need to play that song.
